Press Inquiries: Dana Theus – danatheus@inpowerwomen.com

District Alliance for Safe Housing (DASH)

InPower Women, a network of high-achieving professional women has selected the District Alliance for Safe Housing (DASH) as its primary beneficiary in launching the InPower Women’s Philanthropy Circle.

“DASH embodies the principles of InPower in the unique and powerful way it helps women and their families out of abusive situations,” said Dana Theus, Founder of InPower Women. “Power grows from the inside out. In using this philosophy to provide housing in ways that not only keep women safe, but help them rebuild their lives, including their credit records, DASH is making a huge difference and helping more women stay away from their abusers.

InPower Women is raising money to support DASH’s upcoming Awards Luncheon on March 28, 2012, which will honor the following individuals as “Allies in Change”: Jamila Larson, Executive Direct of The Homeless Children’s Playtime Project; Andre3w Lazerow, Partner, Covington & Burling LLP; Heather Burns & Kathleen Maloy, Live to Give Charitable Trust; Gustavo Velasquez, Director and Alexis Taylor, General Counsel, DC Office of Human Rights; Paul Aguggia, Partner, Townsend, LLP; Julie Hamre, Volunteer; and Jim Graham, Ward 1 Councilmember, DC City Council.

“I’m so honored to have the support of InPower Women,” said Peg Hacskaylo. “Women are extraordinarily powerful, resilient and strong and we love the idea of creating ties between women of all socio-economic groups.”

For more information about how to contribute to DASH through the InPower Women’s Philanthropy Circle, visit: www.InPowerWomen.com/philanthropy.

About InPower Women & the Philanthropy Circle: InPower Women is rewriting the narrative on women and power, inspiring, educating and enabling high-achieving women to reclaim their personal power, the critical first step to helping them obtain and maintain positions of external power and responsibility. Our Philanthropy Circle ensures support to causes which follow the InPower philosophy, to find opportunities to give financially and in other ways that fit their busy schedules and to network with other InPower Women while doing so.
About the District Alliance for Safe Housing (DASH): The District Alliance for Safe Housing (DASH) was founded in 2006 to provide relief to survivors of domestic and sexual violence, through emergency and long-term safe housing, and innovative homelessness prevention services. In less than four years, we have helped to transform how safe housing is operated and accessed throughout the District, and we have grown to become the city’s largest dedicated housing provider for victims of violence and their children.
Today, InPower Women launched a web site at www.InPowerWomen.com to explore the impact of women on business and the economy. Including a research index of over 60 studies on women and business, which is searchable and browsable in categories including women’s impact, capabilities and career advancement. The site also inc
ludes a blog, professional development resources and a philanthropic campaign. This web site is a rich resource for the press as well as working and professional women in every industry.

The site will also feature a campaign and research initiative called The Woman Effect to explore the documented phenomenon that when women are present in an organizations’ leadership, that organization thrives.

Research from McKinsey, Catalyst and other institutions has documented the fact that when a significant number of women (30%) participate in an organization’s leadership, that organization is more productive, profitable and sustainable. Specifically, McKinsey documented improvements in performance across nine different categories. These findings are also consistent with research conducted by The World Bank about the impact of women on economies in the developing world.

“Women are good for business and the economy,” said Dana Theus, Founder of InPower Women. “But we want to know why. We want to explore The Woman Effect more deeply to understand what we as individual professional women can actually do more consciously to create these good outcomes. Indexing the 60+ secondary research studies is just the beginning of this quest.”

InPower Women will be exploring The Woman Effect on its blog and in partnership with organizations dedicated to fostering best practices in women’s leadership.
